About Bob Pike

Bob attended the US Naval Academy and is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute. After serving as a pastor for three years he began his training career in 1969 with Master Education Industries. Starting as a sales representative and trainer he received 9 promotions in 3 1/2 years and was Sr. VP of Marketing. He was the company’s number one salesperson while spending more than 70 percent of his time designing and leading a three week intensive Master Training Academy for new distributors.

He then joined Personal Dynamics Institute and as a sales representative where he did 10 percent of the company’s business in just 4 months and enrolled more than 400 people in their Adventures in program. He became VP of Sales and doubled the company’s sales volume each year for 6 years – all while leading train the trainer programs 150 days per year.

In 1981 he founded what is now known as The Bob Pike Group and started conducting the Creative Training Techniques ™ Train the Trainer Workshop. More the 150,000 trainers in 25 countries have been through his two-day train the trainer workshops. He is the author, co-author or editor of more than 30 books, including the all-time best-selling train the trainer book, ever published, The Creative Training Techniques™ Handbook with more than 330,000 copies sold. In its 4th edition, it was retitled the Master Trainer’s Handbook.

In 2013 Bob sold the Bob Pike Group and in 2015 he founded P3 Associates, his boutique consulting company.

Since 1987 he has written and published Bob Pike’s Training and Performance Forum Newsletter. He has created and produced more than a dozen video training programs. His Creative Training and Presentation Techniques video program produced with the British Broadcasting Company (BBC) won the best business to business video award from the Specialty Audio Video Association. Since 1969 he has designed and delivered more than 600 training programs of one day or longer. His first foray into distance learning was in 1989 when he led a 4 hour fully interactive satellite-delivered training on Creative Presentation Strategies sponsored by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) (now ATD) and delivered to over 2100 people in 300 locations for the United States Chamber of Commerce. Bob frequently keynotes and does workshops at conferences around the world. He has been among the top 3 presenters in both attendance and ratings at every Training Magazine Conference as well as every ASTD (now ATD) International Conference since 1977.

He served as a member of the board of directors for ATD, the National Speakers Association (NSA), and the International Alliance for Learning (Accelerated Learning). In 1991 he earned his Certified Speaking Professional designation from NSA and in 1999 was inducted into the CPAE (Council of Peers Award for Excellence) Speakers Hall of Fame. In 2007 the Instructional Systems Association presented him with its’ “Thought Leader” award and in the same year, a survey by TrainingIndustry.com named Bob one of the 20 most influential people in training and performance worldwide. In 2013 Bob became ASTD’s second CPLP (Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) Fellow.

In 2002 Bob joined the Board of Trustees of Lead Like Jesus (LLJ), a ministry co-founded by Ken Blanchard. He was co-designer of the Leadership Encounter with Jesus Retreat. From 2005-2011 Bob served as Chairman of the Executive Board.

Bob’s clients include IBM China, Covidien Asia, Saudi Aramco, Saudia Airlines, the Defense Security Agency (US), Pfizer, and many others. In the past 24 months alone Bob has worked in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Dubai, and China. His personal mission is to help people “Unlock Learning and Unleash Performance”.
